UK based navigation Courses: Navigation, not just map reading because anyone can read and understand a map, but linking that picture with what we see on the ground and using a compass is more about navigation and less about map reading.
Level 3 Lowland Expedition Leadership Course: We are accredited to run this level 3 qualification often used by school leaders and youth group leaders who work with young people. The award is administered by UK Sports Leaders and runs across 4 training weekends. There is a consolidation period and an assessment weekend. Candidates must fulfill the criteria prescribed by UK Sports Leaders, but this is a nationally recognised qualification. Click here for our next set of course dates.
Winter Mountaineering: The UK Mountains in the winter are among the best in Northern Europe and are the training grounds for all of our best alpinists and mountaineers. Getting into the mountains during the winter can be daunting, but we offer everything you need to build your confidence and reach your summit. We run winter mountaineering trips from 2 to 5 days; this is a chance to get out and undertake a full Scottish winter day and develop some of the skills you’ll need to look after yourself, such as: using an ice axe and crampons, route choice and winter navigation. Please note that we don’t offer winter climbing courses; this is the remit of the MIC and, if that’s what you’re after, I can put you in touch with some really good instructors. E-Courses: We offer a range of e-courses aimed at letting you develop some core skills before heading out into the mountains. Each course runs for a fixed period of time and can be accessed on line using a pc, tablet or smart phone. There are a series of activities and lectures to watch and take part in at your pace. Once completed, you will receive a certificate and the option to progress onto further courses. To access the list of courses, click on the link HERE.
Off-Site Safety Management: This course is designed for those who work in the education or outdoor industry who either lead trips or approve trips and visits involving children and young people. It is particularly useful for establishments that offer expeditions and is approved and certificated by the Royal Geographical Society. It will help anyone planning an expedition and is of particular use to Education Visit Coordinators, click on the link here for the latest course dates.
